Playground Plaza (Maple Grove)

There’s a new place to play in Maple Grove, and your kids are going to love it!

Playground Plaza is an indoor play space featuring two playgrounds, a jumping pillow, party rooms, and more. The space is bright, colorful, and climate-controlled, which means your family can enjoy a little bit of “summer” year ’round!

You’ll find Playground Plaza nestled in an industrial park on the north side of Maple Grove, near Elm Creek Park. And because it’s located just off of Highway 610, it’s only a quick, 20-minute drive from STMA. (High fives!)

The playground facility is open all day, every day—from 7am to 9pm 365 days a year—thanks to an online payment process and secure, staff-less entry. When you buy a pass or membership online, you’ll receive a five-digit code that you can enter at the door to get inside. Single-day passes are $10 per child, and monthly memberships average about $17–20 per child depending on your family size.

A few things I loved:

First, the space is HUGE. The Playground Plaza facility is so large that on my first look around I thought it should have more structures there to fill it up. But as the morning went on and more families filled in the spaces, I realized it has exactly what it needs—plenty of space for kids to run and play and be kids!

Owners Mike and Laura have planned and outfitted Playground Plaza with so much care. In addition to great space for play, there is lots of space for rest and taking care of kids. The entrance area has tons of benches and cubbies, and the cafeteria has plenty of of tables, chairs, and even high chairs. We also found five (yes, five) bathrooms around the facility with clean, sturdy diaper change stations. And they have more plans in the works to make the space great for parents, too, such as benches in the playground and a comfortable seating area for nursing moms.

My favorite thing about Playground Plaza was its wide appeal. Kids of all ages, from crawlers to pre-teens, can find something fun to do at Playground Plaza. Your littlest ones will love the open, grassy area with balls and space to run. My daughter said this was her favorite area because it reminded her of spring. (We could sure use a little spring right now!)  Toddlers can climb, crawl, and slide on their own mini-sized playset designed with smooth plastic and super-safe, no-fall pathways. Preschoolers will be all over the “Big Blue Blocks,” learning to build and work with others in a team. And finally, in the 5-12 playground, older kids will find myriad ways to test their strength and independence on one of the tallest playground sets my kids had ever seen!

The one thing I didn’t love:

As I mentioned previously, the cost to play at Playground Plaza is currently set at $10 per kid. For my family, this puts it in the “special occasion” category rather than in the “typical Tuesday morning.” I would love to see a place like this at a price point of under $8 to really make it feasible for the average family to visit on a regular basis.

Tips for Visiting:

  1. Single-day play passes are only valid on the day of purchase, so make sure to buy yours on the day that you want to visit.
  2. Remember your socks, even during the summer! Kids and parents alike are required to wear socks (no shoes) on the playground.
  3. If you like to avoid busy times, we found that some great times to visit were first thing in the morning (before 10) and late afternoon (in the 4:00 hour).
  4. Don’t forget those snacks and water bottles! Your kids will definitely need a recharge after running around for awhile.
