Rogers School of Music

As your kids are getting ready to head back to school, now is a great time to consider signing them up for music lessons. Not only is there a great window here where you can capitalize on your kids’ back-to-school spirit, it also makes sense to build in music lessons to your school-year routine.

Rogers School of Music wanted to give us a taste of what it’s like to take lessons at their music studio, so I reached out to a friend of mine here in St. Michael whose 7-year-old daughter was interested in learning piano. Ana has now been taking lessons at Rogers School of Music for two months and has already learned a lot—and had a lot of fun doing it!

Ana’s piano teacher, Loni, is upbeat and inviting, and she really made learning music fun. She used a variety of methods to engage Ana in learning about music, from singing and writing to movement activities and even games. Ana was very excited telling me about the large expandable sphere that her teacher used to illustrate soft and loud notes. I would expect a slow introduction to music for a beginning player, but Ana shared that she was playing a song by the end of her very first lesson!

Ana’s mom has also had a great experience. She appreciates how organized the school is, providing e-mail reminders of upcoming lessons and starting and ending every lesson on time. She also liked being given the option to sit in on her daughter’s lesson or wait in the spacious waiting room and watch through the window. The waiting room, by the way, was stocked with enough fun activities to keep her 5-year-old busy during all those half-hour lessons. 😉

Even just two months into lessons, Ana’s mom said,
“I’m impressed by how much she was learning… and she LOVED it!”

Rogers School of Music provides students with a variety of incentives to reward them for their work. Ana received stickers for doing her homework each week, and students who stick with the program can earn special colored achievement bracelets and even trophies for passing their music tests. The school also offers opportunities like a picture day with a professional photographer and semiannual recitals in incredibly cool locations such as the Maple Grove Town Green and Le Musique Room at St. Michael Cinema.

The school offers lessons for ages 5 and up in piano, guitar, bass, violin, cello, drums, ukulele, and voice. The cost of lessons at Rogers School of Music is $30 per 30-minue lesson, and lessons are held once per week. Lessons run on a month-to-month basis, so you can sign up at any time of the year.
