As a long-time resident of Minnesota, I’ve pretty much made my peace with winter. I don’t love it, but I can tolerate it. Since becoming a mom, however, I’ve discovered a whole new disdain for the cold and snowy months that revolves around… grocery shopping.

I’m not sure which is worse—pushing a cart full of groceries through the snow, or dragging kids and and out of stores when the temps are below zero. And when BOTH snow and sub-zero temps arrived on my typical grocery shopping day this week, I figured it was time to give Walmart’s free grocery pickup a try. 🙂 And let me tell you, ladies, I may never go back!

First, the online shopping experience at grocery.walmart.com was surprisingly simple and straightforward. I was able to load up my cart with groceries much faster than I’m able to in the store, and having all the items and prices visible on one page made it much easier to comparison shop. (Also, I might add, there was no toddler in front of me screaming for a cookie while I try to compare prices!)

I placed my order for a 3–4 pm pickup at the Monticello Walmart. (Pickup is available in both Elk River and Maple Grove as well.) When I was leaving my house, I “checked in” using the mobile app (optional), which let them know exactly what time I would arrive.

When I got there, my groceries were ready to go, and the attendant had them into my car within minutes. Because she knew it was my first time doing grocery pickup, she talked me through the pickup process and even gave me a little “welcome” gift bag of samples. (Score!)

One thing I LOVED about ordering groceries online was being able to add in larger items like boxes of diapers and detergents without having to haul them around myself or negotiate space in my shopping cart. Next time I order, I’ll probably throw in water softener salt, because ain’t no momma got time for lifting 40-pound bags of salt.
