5 Fun Things to Do with Your Kids This Summer

School is finally out, and your kids are undoubtedly looking forward to all the awesome summer fun there is to be had over the next few months.

Here are 5 fun ideas to get YOUR family’s summer bucket list started. I’ll bet there’s at least one thing on this list you haven’t tried before…

1. Otsego Splash Pad

This is a favorite local place to cool down when the temps get high. The splash pad at Otsego’s Prairie Park is free and open all summer long. The splash area is probably best suited for kids ages 2–8. The park also has a nice playground, two picnic shelters, paths for walking/biking, and lots of green space for your kids to run around. 2. Beebe Lake Swimming Beach

Located in St. Michael, Beebe Lake Regional Park offers a great place for your kids to swim and play in the sand. You’ll also find a playground, picnic area, fishing pier, and hiking trails, and if you’re feeling really adventurous, you can even plan a family camping trip here!  (more info)

3. Maple Grove Central Park

A relatively new feature to our area, Central Park in Maple Grove has fun for all ages. The park also has a splash pad, but what makes this spot so special is its innovative playground with play structures both your 2- and your 12-year-old can enjoy! Be aware, this space can get crowded during the summer, and the play area is pretty spread out, so if you have a kid who’s a runner, you might want to team up with a friend for this outing. 😉

4. Kids Bowl Free at River City Extreme

Not all summer days will be sunny—and others may be too sunny—so here’s a great indoor activity that you and your kids can enjoy together. When you sign up for the Kids Bowl Free program at River City Extreme in Monticello, your kids can receive two games of bowling every day throughout the summer. Parents who want to bowl can pay per game or purchase the Family Pass, which is good all summer. Shoe rental fees also apply.  (more info)

5. Albertville Farmer’s Market + Concert in the Park

Here’s a fun activity for your evenings that is also a great way to connect with the community. The Albertville Farmer’s Market takes place every Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Lions Park shelter. In addition to fresh produce grown by local farmers, your family can pick up dinner from the concessions area and grab a spot on the grass for live music in the park from 6–9 p.m. on select nights. The 2018 concert schedule is posted here, and you’ll find information on FYCC’s Power of Produce program for kids here.

Your turn! What are some of YOUR family’s go-to activities during the summer?
