“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” opens this week at Children’s Theatre Company

Get ready to have your holiday spirits lifted! The classic story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, is back by popular demand and returning for its 13th season at the Children’s Theatre Company. This family favorite, all-ages show opens on Friday and will run through January 4.

In this beloved holiday favorite, filled with music and Seussian rhymes, a miserable, cantankerous Grinch plots the greatest heist imaginable—stealing the very thing the joyful Whos love the most. Until, that is, the smallest of the Whos, tiny Cindy-Lou, extends a hand.

Gracing the stage as Cindy-Lou Who this year is a familiar face to STMA-area theatre fans. Chloe Sorenson, who you may know from several roles with SOAR Regional Arts or as Young Elsa in CTC’s recent production of Disney’s Frozen, returns to the Children’s Theatre stage, this time as Cindy-Lou.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Chloe to hear about her experience so far and what she’s looking forward to about the show. “I like seeing it come together again with the different cast,” says Chloe, “and the different portrayals by different people.”

She shared what she enjoys most about playing Cindy this year, and what she hopes viewers will learn from seeing her on stage.

“[Cindy] is very kind and caring. She sees the good in people even when others don’t. There’s a part after my solo song where the Grinch and I are sitting together on this bench. It’s just such a sweet, wonderful moment.”

We spoke a bit about Chloe’s acting journey, starting as just a young child in a summer community theatre program. “I was like, ‘I want to do this.’ The moment I stepped onto that stage, I just knew.”

And to young actors who may want to pursue a similar path, Chloe says, “Just go with your gut. Just do it! Keep going, because no dream is ever too big.”
