Schools are out and families are sheltering-in, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep having fun! Here’s a calendar of fun activities for your family to enjoy at home during the month of April.

April 1 – National Walking Day
Go for a walk around the neighborhood. Count how many of your neighbors are doing the same thing. Be sure to wave and say “Hi” to them!
April 2 – National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day
Find a new twist on an old classic with six different ways to make a PB&J. Then print out this free Peanut Butter and Jelly Counting Activity to work on number skills.
April 3 – National Find a Rainbow Day
See who can wear the most colors! As a family, set a timer and race to put on as many clothes and accessories as it takes to be wearing every color of the rainbow. Print out small rainbows, let kids color them, and hide the rainbows around the house. Have everyone try to find them all by the end of the day. Print free rainbows here: Printable Rainbow Templates
April 3 – World Party Day
It’s party time, and there is no theme! Decorate the living room in any and all party decor you can find and then play some Minute to Win It games. You can find game ideas on Pinterest, or use this list of tried-and-true games for large groups.
April 4 – National Decorating Month
If you haven’t yet, it’s time to decorate for spring and Easter. Decorate windows with Easter shapes, hang a floral wreath, and fill your home with color! Check out this tutorial for DIY Bunny Tail Garland, a fun craft everyone can help with.
April 5
Make a spring-themed gingerbread or graham cracker house for your Peeps, and decorate it using Easter candy, sprinkles, and shredded coconut.
April 6
Hang music notes in your windows for neighbors to find this week!
April 7 – World Health Day
Build an obstacle course! Using masking tape on the floor to indicate the direction of the course, have kids (and adults!) climb over the couch, crawl under tables, bounce on a mini-trampoline, and jump over stacks of toilet paper. (You know you’re hoarding some! 😉 ) Don’t forget to record a video and send it to the grandparents!
April 8
It’s National Inventors Month! Prepare for April showers by making a rain gauge out of a plastic bottle. Find the instructions here. Take measurements each day it rains and record them on a chart for some real-life practice in science and math.
April 9
It’s time to color Easter eggs! Consider trying a new technique this year. Here are 43 Creative Ways to Dye Easter Eggs.
April 10 – National Siblings Day
Make a poster for each child in your home. Have your kids take turns writing things they love about one another. (Yes, even siblings can have nice things to say about each other! 😉 )
April 11 – National Pet Day
Whether your pet is a goldfish or a horse, it’s time to celebrate everyone’s favorite non-human family member! Get your pet a present, have everyone sketch a pet portrait, and have a photoshoot.
April 12 – Easter
After enjoying church online, spend the afternoon baking for a family Easter dinner. This year, try out some quirky recipes, such as Colored Deviled Eggs, Stained Glass Cross Cookies, or an Easter Egg Fruit Pizza.
April 13 – National Scrabble Day
It’s a great day to bust out this classic word-building game! Don’t have the original? Download the Scrabble app and play against a friend.
April 14 – Look Up At The Sky Day
Put down your phone and look up at the sky. What do you see? If it’s a cloudy day, what shapes can you find in the clouds? After dark, check out these 5 celestial wonders that can be seen in April.
April 15 – World Art Day
This list of 12 major museums you can tour online includes some of the world’s largest art museums, including The Louvre. Celebrate World Art Day with a free online tour of iconic art exhibits, all from the comfort of your couch.
April 16 – Wear Pajamas to Work Day
Since you’re probably already working from home, don’t feel guilty about wearing your favorite PJs! Spend the day in comfy clothes, and don’t forget to wear your favorite slippers.
April 17
Brighten up your home by planting some springtime flowers! Get the kids in on the fun by inviting them to paint terra cotta flower pots with acrylic paint.
April 18
Did you know that it’s National Humor Month? Spend the day telling each other silly jokes, and watch a family-friendly comedian on Netflix! Check out Jim Gaffigan on Netflix or watch his newest stand-up on Amazon Prime.
April 19
Spread some love! Cut out paper hearts to hang in your windows for neighbors to see.
April 20 – National Look-Alike Day
Have you ever been told that you look like someone else? Today, become that person! You can also make this a family activity by having everyone dress and act as the family member they most resemble.
April 21 – World Innovation Day
Think outside the box. What everyday problem can you solve by using your imagination to think up something new? Draw a picture of your invention.
April 22 – Earth Day
Celebrate Earth Day with Scholastic’s online teaching tools and lesson plans, then head outside and enjoy nature! Go for a walk, plant a flower or vegetable, build birdhouses, or search for bugs.
April 23 – National Picnic Day & World Book Day
Enjoy a picnic lunch and have everyone bring along their favorite book. You could also dress up as beloved book characters and attend your picnic lunch in character!
April 24 – National Arbor Day
Even if you don’t get the chance to plant a tree, there are plenty of ways to celebrate this holiday! Visit The Natural Homeschool for tons of free printable activities and lesson plans, as well as recommended books about trees. And younger kids will love making their own paper trees, using a few of the empty toilet paper rolls you happen to have stashed somewhere…
April 25 – National Telephone Day
Take a break from text messaging, and try using your phone for its original purpose. Call a friend, your mom, maybe even a grandparent who would love to hear your voice!
April 26 – National Pretzel Day
Never pay for a mall pretzel again! These delicious soft pretzels are deceptively easy, but the trick to the shape lies in lifting and twisting the pretzel in one smooth motion. Think you can master the “Lasso”? Watch this video to learn how. After your pretzels are baked, dip them into butter and a cinnamon-sugar mix, or create your very own flavors!
April 27 – Tell a Story Day
Make up a story and put together your own children’s book! Draw some pictures, cut them out of magazines, or use computer clip art.
April 28 – National Superhero Day
If you were a superhero, what kind of powers would you have and why? Download this free printable and draw yourself as a superhero.
April 29 – International Dance Day
Dance Party! Make a fun playlist the whole family will love – don’t forget to include music from the kids’ favorite movies (Trolls, anyone?)
April 30
Bring in the sunshine! From inside the house, paint the sun onto a window or two to welcome in a beautiful new month.
