This fall has been a beautiful one, but our family’s start to school has been a little rough. Between colds and quarantines, my kids have been home from school for days and weeks at a time, leaving me in definite need of a Moms’ Night Out! So last week I gathered up some girlfriends and headed over to Maynard’s in Rogers for a wine-and-apps night to swap stories and enjoy some moms-only time.
If your family is looking for a relaxing mid-week dinner out at a reasonable price, be sure to check out Villa Bar & Grill in Albertville.
The Villa (formerly Emma Krumbee’s) is located just off I-94 and serves up an extensive menu of homestyle, made-from-scratch American food in a comfortable and family-friendly environment.
Every Wednesday night is “Family Night” at the Villa, when kids 10 & under eat FREE with a paid adult entree. And, on the last Wednesday of the month, your family can enjoy table-side magic with Kyle the Magic Guy between 5 and 7pm. Edit: Kids now eat free Monday–Wednesday, and Kyle the Magic Guy visits The Villa on Tuesdays.
Portillo’s is bringing a little bit of Chicago to the northwest Twin Cities with the opening of its new location in Maple Grove, coming January 23.
Portillo’s, which started as a single hot dog stand in 1963, now has locations across the country, with buildings and themes as diverse as the people who eat there! (Read more about the history here.) The theme of the Maple Grove location is 1930’s Prohibition, and you can see it reflected in the art and memorabilia covering the walls inside. The menu includes a wide variety of hot sandwiches, as well as burgers, pasta, salads, and of course—hot dogs!
Earlier this week I mentioned that it’s “Shop Local Week” in STMA. (You can read more about the value of shopping at local businesses at stmamom.com/shoplocal.)
Here are five of MY favorite places to “shop local” in St. Michael–Albertville:
