Tiny treasures are popping up all over St. Michael–Albertville, but you have to look down—they could be hiding right under your feet!
It’s being called STMA Rocks, and they are just that—rocks, hand-painted by kids and parents and hidden all around the STMA area. My kids found their first rocks earlier this week hidden on the grounds of the St. Michael library.
Amy Woitalla, a mom who started the trend here in town, said, “My family decided to start this group when we found a beautiful owl rock in Lanesboro, MN that came all the way from Lake Placid, FL. It’s easy—friends in the community paint rocks and hide them primarily at parks and areas of high foot traffic. The key is to be prepared to hide a rock of your own, or re-hide your find somewhere else so the fun never ends.”
Anyone playing along is invited to join the Facebook group STMA “Rocks” (link) and post photos of rocks they’ve painted or rocks they’ve found. These tiny treasures have been popping up at local parks, school playgrounds, and local businesses, and more rocks are being hidden all the time! (We hid a few at the St. Michael Rec Center this morning. 😉 Hint hint)
Thanks to Sandy G. for sharing these photos of her grandkids finding rocks at the Albertville Primary playground and creating their own for others to find:
Check out the STMA Rocks Facebook group to find out more and get in on the fun.
